SIC Ltd expands contract manufacturing capabilities in major business enhancement

Swansea-based electrical manufacturing specialist SIC Ltd is to offer what it claims will be one of the most comprehensive contract manufacturing and assembly services in the UK, following the expansion of its manufacturing portfolio to cover all aspects of electrical and non-electrical design and manufacture.

SIC is already one of the UK’s leading and longest established manufacturers of wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, control panels, box build, wiring looms and panel wiring for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), Automotive and Gaming industries. The company has now broadened its focus and capabilities to cover a full range of electrical and general contract manufacturing services, which it claims will offer significant cost savings and productivity benefits to all types of manufacturers – including those in Wales’ emerging high-technology and scientific industries – who are considering outsourced manufacture as part of their business strategy.

“Historically, too many UK manufacturing businesses have regarded outsourcing as a ‘last minute’ decision, which often means that too little consideration has been given to any desired efficiency savings and business outcomes,” commented SIC Technical Director, Phil Hurlow. “Not only can we help business better understand the most effective and efficient ways of streamlining their manufacturing activities, we can now also provide a one-stop manufacturing facility and available workforce which is ready to work as an extension of a client’s business,” he added.
Although SIC’s core business has always been the manufacture and assembly of wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, panel wiring, box build, wiring looms and control panels. In recent years the company has diversified considerably, in both the range of products manufactured and the depth of its manufacturing services.

According to CBI statistics, over 120,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in the UK since 2005. “Contract manufacturing can deliver huge advantages – especially to small businesses or start ups which do not have the capital to invest in their own manufacturing plant, machinery, facilities and workforce,” continued Phil Hurlow. “We see these types of services as being central to a re-vitalised Welsh manufacturing industry. Too much of this work has already been lost to the far east and we hope that by making our own facilities available to others, we will be able to keep more of this manufacturing expertise within the UK – and critically, within Wales.”
